Morgan and DHSFP End of Season Award Winners

This season was brought to an untimely finish, but we still want to celebrate the individual achievements for our players at Morgan and Dundee.
Here are this years winners and the words of Director of Rugby Colin Sangster.
Player of the Year – DHSFP 1st XV
Finlay Ormiston
CS “Finlay had an outstanding first season at the club. Rarely missed training, worked exceptionally hard at every session, and during matches. Played a few games when he was carrying a knock but soldiered on for the benefit of the team. Regular try scorer and all round great team player!”
Dundee Morgan Player of the Year
Owen Foster
CS “This award is based on overall MOTM points (using 3,2,1 system). Owen always approached every game with the same positive, tenatious attitude and played with his heart on his sleeve every week. Hard hitting, big tackler with an eye for a score who was getting better every week.”
Young Player of the Year – DHSFP 1st XV
Tim Brown
CS “Another new player at the club last season, Tim totally committed to the cause from the off, and was a real stand out early in the season with several outstanding MOTM performances. Unfortunately he picked up an injury mid season, and then on his return he was called up to International duty with Scotland U18. Tim is an exciting young player with a huge future in the game.”
Young Player of the Year – Dundee Morgan
Matt Clark
CS “In his first full year in senior rugby, Matt had an outstanding season, stepping into a very high pressure role at No.10, leading the youngest and most exciting back line in the league. His attitute at training was fantastic, his impact on the XV huge and rightly got recognition and minutes for the 1st XV. One to watch for the future”
Most Improved Player – 1st XV
James Shellard
CS “Another young player who just joined us from Dundee Rugby U18s last season. He arrived as a very raw prop, who, if I’m honest probably needed to spend a few months learning his trade in a lower team before being exposed to the 1st XV. However circumstances did not allow that and James played every game for the 1st XV during the season. His progress was nothing short of outstanding, as he learnt from game to game, and he even picked up a MOTM award against Kelso. He always turned up for extra training on a Tuesday night before the main session started and his attitude was absolutely superb.”
Most Improved Player – Dundee Morgan
Lee Brown
CS “Lee joined the club last season having never played competitive rugby before and played his first full 80mins of rugby during our first game of the season at Perthshire 2nd XV. From that moment on, he never looked back and got better and better every week. His attitude at training was impeccable, he always gave 100% and grew in confidence every week. A model pro and a pleasure to lead and play with.”
Best Newcomer 1st XV
Fraser Black
CS “Fras got off to a slow start at Dundee as he found his feet at a new club, but as the season wore on he got much more involved with training and playing and put in some tremendous shifts in the second half of the season. Never took a step backwards and a work rate that was outstanding. Great ball carrier and tackler! Looking forward to watching him in season two!!”
Players Player of the Year – 1st XV
Sam Cardosi
CS “Sam is another new player who arrived mid season and put in a series of man of the match performances. Tireless worker on the field and in training, and one of those players you just want on your team!
Sam got a high percentage of the votes for this award, and the other votes were spread between the other award winners above plus Keeks and the Mcginns. I need to mention those guys as they are all tremendous club men and team members.”
Scoring Awards for Dundee Morgan
Top Try Scorer – Brenton Bekker/Owen Foster (5 each).
Top Points Scorer – Rory Collins (42pts).
And that wraps up the season for 2019/20, thank you to all who made it possible and well done to all the award winners, you’ve joined some illustrious company.
