Jim Stewart ,

An appreciation

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Jim Stewart.

A man, who contributed in many different ways to the Club.

From Treasurer in the nineties to organising the lottery.

His affection for the Club showed no bounds, and this became apparent to all who spoke with him.

His knowledge of computers was second to none, and there are many members who will testify to his assistance.

Jim was educated at Morgan Academy, and from there he decided to join the merchant navy as an engineer, and for many years sailed with Alfred Holt & Co on Blue Funnel ships all over the world.

He was essentially a practical man with  wide ranging skills honed by his engineering background .

When his sea going came to an end, he became involved in Ship Management based in Dundee.

Latterly, his health became a major problem , but he lived with it, with great dignity and stoicism and never complained.

He was quite unique in many ways, great company at all times, a noted foodie, his canapes at Mayfield on a Friday second to none!

His support for the Club was legendary!

He will be sadly missed by all at Mayfield.

To his wife Frances and his family we extend our deep sympathy
