Forget the WC, think about S&C

Don’t worry about the Fifa World Cup, we aren’t even thinking about big Vlad’s Tourney.

Instead we’re getting stuck into off season S&C with Hammy and looking forward to pre-season training.

Andrew Hamilton is this season’s Strength and Conditioning Coach and he comes with a truck load of experience.

Having completed an HNC in sports coaching, Hammy moved into the leisure/sports development working with Clackmannanshire Council as a Gym Coach. From there he added further coaching qualifications before enrolling in a modern apprenticeship in personal training, nutrition and leisure management.

Notably, Hammy has also achieved a level 1 in s&c with the IRB and hoping to start the level 2 this year.

Still working with clacks council as senior gym instructor looking after the Alva community Clackmannanshire, Hammy manages to fit in some of his own classes and a dozen personal training clients.

Hammy will be overseeing S&C sessions at Mayfield’s “bear pit” every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5.30pm – 7.30pm and will be in attendance every Wednesday for one on one tuition.

He will be a busy man, combining his off field duty’s with training and playing for Dundee in season 18/19.

We asked Hammy how he was enjoying his new role so far:

“Lads have been smashing it since start of May, even Geo has been down!”

We wish Hammy all the best with his new role at Mayfield.

Hammy will be part of the coaching set up at Mayfield this year which includes, Head Coach Colin Sangster, Phil Godman, Ian Lockart and Ian Robertson.

Pre-season starts Tuesday 26th June 2018, 6.30pm sharp.

Volunteer Posts Available in new Look Dundee Rugby

Posts available

Dundee High Rugby are at the forefront of Rugby on Tayside. Several opportunities are available due to a Club vision to keep us at the top. We are looking for suitably qualified people available to travel with both teams for home and away games. The First Team Manager works alongside the head coach handling admin and logistics as does the Titans Team Manager. We also require a kit man/woman that can on game days organise the kit. We are also looking for a first aider who can be available on match days for the Titans. If you think you are qualified for any of these posts please contact Colin Sangster in the first instance by email, rugbydundee727@gmail.com with a short resume and why you would be interested. Suitable packages are available for qualified candidates.

Introducing our new Club Captain!

Name: Fraser McKay
Position: Fly Half, Centre, Full Back
DOB – 23/06/94

Fraser is in his third season at Mayfield where he returned after a brief spell at Strathmore RFC.

Fraser was a product of Dundee Eagles and we talked to him about his new role.

DR: What does it mean to be club captain and what are your aspirations?
FM:Being club captain makes me feel incredibly proud and lucky as there’s not many people who get the chance to be a captain at such a great club. I also feel quite comfortable with being captain and the slightly added pressure that comes with it.
My aspirations for this season are, to Improve On last seasons finish in the table. Finishing 4th the past 2 seasons even though it’s been a great effort considering the situations through injuries and unavailable players, we as a club need to be back fighting for the top spot. With the attacking style of play we were playing come the last 3/4 games of last season I feel that this season will be an entertaining and enjoyable one for all the players and hopefully for the crowd that come down to support!
DR Who is your favourite Dundee Player of All time?
FM:Favourite crown player would be Alan brown, the respect the man has at the club is amazing both on and off the pitch! He knows the game so well and for when I first came to Dundee it was a good learning period for me as a player
We wish Fraser all the best for the new season and look forward to his leadership on and off the field.

It’s all happening at Mayfield!

Well the dust hasn’t settled long on the 17/18 season but we’re already looking ahead to next!

Changes are afoot in the Mayfield think tank.

The club has galvanised after the reeling sting of missing out on Super 6 and is looking ahead to a possible future expansion to super 8! So what are we doing off the field to move to that goal.

Well several things in fact!

We have established a blossoming new relationship with Abertay University, that will see them supporting the club in various different roles.

The Crown and the Stag have combined, but not in a Robert Baratheon sort of way. Morgan Rugby Club and Dundee HSFP combine forces to welcome a new dawn in Dundee Rugby. Hopefully more playing opportunities and shared resource will see this venture as a success.

Colin Sangster

Colin Sangster has completed his level 4 coaching badge, making him one of the most qualified coaches in the country and a real asset to the club and the city.

Bill Campbell, our new BDM

Bill Campbell has committed to becoming our first ever Business Development Manager! Bill has been involved, with great success, on the commercial side of the club for some time and with this new role will no doubt increase his positive influence.

And we all love social media, so we’ve upped our game here too. Bringing in the vastly experienced Holly Good to steer the ship through our social media expeditions and press releases.

Hopefully we don’t have to follow Geo’s snapchat to find out whats happening anymore!

Fraser McKay, our new skip, in action

And last but not least the club captain for 2018/19 has been announced. And we are pleased to report that Fraser McKay fills the void left by outgoing skip Duncan Leese.

Great praise must go to Duncs, who asked in parting that we pull together as a club to move forward into a new era. Thank you for your commitment and unwavering enthusiasm last year Dunc. We know we are in good hands both on and off the pitch with Fraser and wish him all the best for the upcoming season.

We hope everyone associated with the club will welcome our new recruits and are looking forward to the new season getting underway. See you at Mayfield

Dundee rugby clubs’ partnership set to grow rugby in the city

Dundee rugby clubs’ partnership set to grow rugby in the city

Dundee High Rugby and Morgan RFC are joining forces to strengthen the Dundee Titans and Morgan teams and to ensure more players in the city get the opportunity to play competitive rugby.

Sitting in BT Caledonia Reserve League 2, Dundee Titans will create a bridge between Morgan in BT Caledonia 3 and Dundee High Rugby in BT National 1.  A fourth development side is also being planned.

The innovative partnership has the backing of Abertay University who will provide sports science assistance, including nutritional advice, sports coaching, fitness testing, match analysis and in strength and conditioning expertise. This game changing support will help provide a clear pathway for players to progress within the sport in Dundee. Abertay University provide more sports degree awards than any other University in Scotland and are at the cutting edge of Sports Science.

Dundee Director of Rugby, Colin Sangster said: “Joint training will be the catalyst for improvement of all players with a focus on creating a common playing style and culture across this citywide initiative.”

The combined coaching team, led by Colin Sangster and including Phil Goldman, Ian Robertson and Iain Lockhart, will work hard to implement this ethos backed by a robust strength and conditioning programme that will allow players of all levels to reach their potential.

Sangster continued: “We are looking forward to working with the expanded pool of players and to welcoming new players keen to be part of this exciting development for rugby in Dundee.”

The partnership kicks off with an open training session at Dundee High’s Mayfield ground on Tuesday, 26 June (6:30pm). New players are welcome to attend or can email headcoach@dundeehighrugby.club for more information.

Dundee Fall Short in Super 6 Bid

Dundee High are very disappointed not to have been awarded one of the Super 6 franchises. We were strongly motivated by a desire to offer a rugby pathway for players north of the Forth and we were confident that we had presented an attractive and viable bid.

We are very grateful to those who contributed to the formulation of the bid, including the High School of Dundee, Abertay University, the University of Dundee and Dundee City Council and we trust that they will remain partners as we now concentrate on reaching the top of the amateur game which will come into place below the Super 6 competition from season 2019/20.

We thank Scottish Rugby for the opportunity and wish the successful bidders all the best in the new competition
