The club is very sorry to learn of the passing of former President Bill Dryden. A larger than life character, who first played for the club in 1947, Bill was an outstanding member and lifelong supporter of the club, and his cheery disposition and steadfast encouragement will be sadly missed. Always supportive, never critical, Bill followed the club through thick and thin, and with a great sense of humour, was always ready with a quick quip or captivating reminiscence about days gone by.
Bill was President of the Club during the mid 1970s, an exciting time when the SRU introduced rugby leagues into Scotland, leading the way in world rugby in so doing, with our own club back then being placed in Division 4. This was also the time when which we moved from Monymusk to our current home at Mayfield, a move with which Bill helped greatly. As President, he also enjoyed the club’s first ever win in the Midlands Knock Out Cup, with a hard-fought victory over Harris in the 1975 final.
We extend our sympathies to Bill’s wife Inez and his family
