Warren Gatland and company named their 41 man squad to travel to NZ this summer, which included a few shock announcements. Only 2 Scots make the touring party (Hogg and Seymour) and none from Mayfield. There had been high hopes that Broonie might be selected for another invitational side, off the back of his barbarian’s exploits, he loves a tour.
Mayfield also expected Rab the Crab to be picked on the same basis as Alan Quinlan’s in 2009, essential for squad morale.
Even the shoe -in Mayfields’ 50 + caps man Dicko got injured when he had one foot on the plane. Richie V is a good lad too, doesn’t Gats know that?
We will just have to make do with Homer and Passion assaulting the land of the long white cloud on their never ending retirement trip. The passion will be something special on this pilgrimage!
There are a few tenuous links though, Rory Best made the trip and we can claim him as he is real good mates with Scotty Jeffers (the yale is weak Scotty, never forget)
And Jack Nowell get’s picked, who credits his astronomical rise in recent years to his favourite rugby experience to date, Dundee v Pirates 20th Oct 2012, he could have said
“I owe everything to the lads at Dundee for helping me on this journey. Playing against Dave Curry was intense and really showed me what being a competitor is all about. Thanks to the Mayfield Roar I won’t be intimidated by any All Blacks supporters.”
The Robertson twin’s have got to ken Hogg as well, a’bdy kens a’bdy in the borders. So we’ll claim that one too.
